FAQ

What is Folken?

Folken is one of the best and busiest concert venues in Stavanger.

It is also a center for cultural student activities. Located close to the city centre in the eye-catching yellow building with its neo-classicist facade drawn by Norwegian architect Gustav Helland.

Built in 1925 it was originally the worker’s union’s house in Stavanger and later became a movie theater, a movie theater still remembered by the older generation in Stavanger for John Wayne and Tarzan movies.

In 1988 students took over the building and finally had a house of their own in the city centre.

Folken offers students in Stavanger the opportunity to get involved, to meet new people and – last, but not least – discounts on everything.

Run by an administration dedicated to serving the students’ interests, and a group of 150 volunteers filling the house with a variety of activities. Only your imagination – and physics – set the limits for what is possible at Folken.

Concerts in Folken’s main hall – Storsalen – make up the majority of the program and the venue is established in Norway and Scandinavia as a natural stop on the tours of domestic and international artists.

But if you’re not a fan of concerts there’s no need to despair. Make use of the free WiFi in the café – Kafé Akvariet – or participate in the quiz, debates or film club. Other activities are also very welcome at Folken. Whether you’re looking for a place to just hang out with new friends or want to get more involved and sign up as a volunteer, Folken is your one-stop shop.

When does the show start?

Times for doors and show are displayed on the ticket. The time stated in the program is for when the show starts.

The doors to the concert hall will usually open one hour prior to show start. The café’s opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 18.00.

If you are still in doubt about times, please contact us by phone.

Can I stay and have a beer after the show?

Please do! Stay as long as you like or until the staff asks you to leave. We recommend the café for a drink after the show.

How many people do you have room for?

Main hall capacity is 650, 180 in Grottene (stage room) + 120 (bar and back room). The Kafé Akvariet holds approximately 100 people.

Do you speak English?

Yes, and we even think we’re pretty good at it.

As our guest we’re sure you’ll be able to get good assistance from our staff, if you’re unable to read the signs.

A large portion of our excellent volunteers are international students, so getting more involved and volunteering there’s no need to fear the language barrier either.

Where do I leave my jacket during the show?

Unfortunately we have no designated wardrobe at Folken.

I forgot something at Folken!

For lost and found please come in and talk to our staff during regular opening hours or e-mail gjenglemt@folken.no.
